Who was the Killer?

She smiled and politely declined help from the young man who tried to help her, as it was obvious she was struggling with her bags. She honestly wasn't bothered as it was the eve of her 20th anniversary and she was so excited and her husband was right outside waiting to pick her up. She spotted Luke as soon as she walked out. She had the biggest smile on her face, but Luke kept a very straight face because he was on the phone. He just opened the door for her to put her bags.

The drive home was a very silent one. Luke didn't ask how her trip was or even how she was. She was hoping all this was a front because he had an amazing surprise waiting for her, but then again, their marriage has not exactly been smooth sailing for the past year. They got to the house, he unlocked the door to the house and just walked in. He didn't offer to help her with her bags. She dragged them herself and walked in. "You couldn't even help me with one bag" she said with a hint of laughter not wanting to upset her husband although she was quite upset.

The anniversary weekend couldn't end fast enough. Luke treated her terribly, he would make her cook meals only to say he changed his mind and she'd have to make another meal entirely. He complained and nagged through out and went on and on about how all their children were wasted investments simply because they didn't want to live the life he planned. They weren't immoral, they weren't hurting anybody, they just wanted different paths than he chose. This did not please Luke.

Luke had become a self-centered, arrogant cunt over the years. She wondered why and concluded he was always that way, he just wasn't rich enough to show it. "Oh God, Show me the way" she cried. Mary was very confused, her intuition told her Luke was having an affair, Luke had become a terrible husband and a worse father. Chizoba, her first child had written off Luke, since he kept hammering on her and always made her feel worthless. Chizoba had become a rebel who didn't give a flying frack what her father wanted. Gone were the days her innocent little daughter would cry when she couldn't please her parents. This broke her heart even more.

"CHIZOBA!!!" "Ooooh, what is it again?" Chizoba grumbled as she went to answer her mother. "Ma" she responded, on getting there, she saw there were tears in her mothers eyes, she instantly became worried "It's all your fault o" her mother said with so much rage. A wave of confusion hit her before she could speak, her mother continued "because of you, your father has a girlfriend, you have broken our home. I cannot scold you, he'll say I'm nagging, I'm shouting. I hope you're happy? He's taken me as the monster you painted me as. Just go" Chizoba was taken aback, she was discombobulated. How was she responsible for her fathers affair? As a thinking creature, he can't swallow whatever it is Chizoba told him, If he didn't think Mary was a nag, no amount of complaints from Chizoba would have changed his mind.

"So, Mary... Where's your husband? You do know this is supposed to be a couple's therapy session" "Well, Dr Lateefat, He wouldn't agree to it, so I'm here to talk about my marriage, hoping you can counsel me from the perspective of a marriage counselor, if that makes any sense" "Yea, Mary, it is, So tell me about your marriage" Mary sighed before she responded "Well, all of a sudden, my cooking is terrible, I can't seem to do anything right. Let me give you a few instances"
"Okay Mary, I'll see you next Tuesday." Mary left a little happier, she smiled and responded "Thank you, Dr Lateefat"

"I REGRET MARRYING YOU!!" Those were the words that put an end to the shouting match that had been going on for hours. The words left Luke's lips and he had no remorse "Maybe we should get a divorce?" Mary suggested, neither of them objected. "I'll call my lawyer tomorrow, you should too" Mary nodded and walked away. That was it, a marriage of 20+ years just came to an abrupt stop, Just like that. The problem was, neither of them knew when things went wrong.

Who killed the marriage? Chizoba the first child? Luke? Mary? Or did it just die??

  1. The marriage just died, because not true evidence was given that the husband was cheating, the wife was wrong or the daughter was the cause.
The main problem with the marriage was that no body talked to each other about their problems in the marriage, all the did was blame each other (mom blames daughter and father, father blames mom and daughter doesn't even care about what happens to the family and her parents marriage).
COMMUNICATION IS KEY IN ANY SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP but it was lacking in this one.

    1. I see where you're coming from. I agree with you on most of it, but is it really the daughter's duty/responsibility to worry about her parents marriage?

    2. Every Child has the responsibility to try and ensure their parents marriage to the best of their ability, it's one of our duties to our parents.

  2. I believe the marriage died itself and they didn't even bother to salvage it.

  3. No, not in an African home they don't.

  4. Honestly, I feel there are some missing pieces to the story, but based solely on what’s here, I’ld say the man didn’t put as much effort as he should in the marriage. He literally killed it. Resorting to external locus of control and refusing therapy. Those are major killer moves if you ask me
