One Thing

After I uploaded Devil Devil? I got a lot of questions about who Mr. X is and people want to know more details in his life, I am in the process of asking him for permission to make his story a series. Fingers Crossed People 🤞

I saw a post on Instagram today, it said: “Do you ever wonder how different your life would be if that one thing didn’t happen?” I paused to think about that one thing and realized, there were multiple one things. Before I proceed, I’d like to state that I like to live a life without regret. I believe all my actions and decisions, good or bad have brought me to this very minute and made me who I am. I try to be proud of myself at every point in time and own this shit. Honestly, you should too. That’s by the way.

I thought about all the things that could have happened and greatly changed the course of my life and I realized, that is a LOT, like “Oore, have ever really been in control?”. I’ll list a few for you.
  • If I hadn’t woken up hungry that fateful day December 2015 and walked to Bashan to buy curried chicken.
  • If I hadn’t passively let myself study computer engineering because I thought it was the lesser of two evils.
  • If I hadn’t applied to Covenant University.
  • If I hadn’t decided to join Enactus after watching a low-quality yet inspiring video of Enactus CU.
  • If I hadn’t decided to start this blog.
  • If I hadn’t chosen to be nice and say “Hi” to the new guy.
  • If I hadn’t chosen to let you know your partner was a cheating asshole.
  • If I hadn’t let myself be friends with certain people.
  • If I hadn’t been such a passive person.
  • If I hadn’t dated you and just remained single.
  • If I had stayed in that fateful trade-fair night.
  • If I hadn’t picked up that call at 11:30pm from Access Bank.

I understand that a few horrid things would absolutely not have happened, but I do know for certain, I wouldn’t have met the best people in my life, I wouldn’t have laughed the best laughter in my existence so far -people who know me personally, know that I’m a really happy person and I absolutely love laughing, it takes a little effort to make me laugh but when I do, it feels amazing, I wouldn’t have taken a step to follow my dreams, I wouldn’t have been exposed to people’s true colors, I wouldn’t have known early on that “People ain’t shit!!!”, I wouldn’t have known how much I actually loved speaking. For all these things, I am immensely grateful. If life happened again, I’d probably still choose the same path.

I’d just like to say, whoever is hanging on to that one event you think changed the course of your life; Your life isn’t over, you can start over and do things anew if you feel it ruined your life. If it was a great turning point; Congratulations, keep living your life.

You could take a few minutes to evaluate the perceived turning points in your life and take time to appreciate and be grateful for them.
Whatever the case, just don’t hold on too tightly to the past and keep moving forward and try to live your best life.
